Search Local: RootsTech Special

Search Local are posts covering the free digital collections available from libraries and archives in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. It is published twice monthly.

RootsTech 2023 begins this week with hours of fascinating and informative sessions for anyone interested in family history. Whether you are onsite in Salt Lake City or virtual on your device, check out what can be discovered at RootsTech!

RootsTech is hosted by FamilySearch in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the FamilySearch Library is located. In honor of RootsTech, Search Local wants to remind everyone of the millions of digitized records from across the globe, including the states of Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio that can be found at FamilySearch. To access the material, create a free account with FamilySearch. On the home page, choose "Search" from the options across the top of the screen then "Records" from the drop-down menu. To see what is available, type in a state name in the "Search by Place" box on the lower right-side of the screen.

With sixteen indexed databases specific to Indiana, twenty-seven to Michigan, and forty-one for Ohio, many of them county specific, there is truly something for everyone, whatever "Local" is home.

Explore all the free digital resources available from FamilySearch and enjoy RootsTech 2023!
